fiddle dee....
Hannah began playing the violin last year at the start of 5th grade. It was a struggle at first, as with any instrument I am sure one wants instant gratification to a degree. Hannah was no different. She kept at it and by the end if the school year, she saw the fruits of her efforts.
With the start of 6th grade, she not only takes Strings at school every day, but I signed her up with a Suzuki teacher. Hannah can play by ear very well. In fact, she plays better this way than actually trying to read the notes.
Last month, her teacher came to her and said that she wanted Hannah to play in the fiddle competition at the State Fair. Mrs. Temperance fiddles, and boy can she set those strings on fire! At first, Hannah was resistant, but we both talked her into it. She had to learn two songs. A "break down" and a "waltz". The break down she started to learn in Sept. and the waltz, she learned in 30 minutes, 4 days before the competition! I wish I had that kind of musical talent.
Competition day came today and we arrived 30 minutes before the start. She was nervous! Her teacher played an accompaniment of sorts, plucking along with Hannah. I thought she did terrific, in spite of the fact that I'm her mom!! I was so proud of her for getting up there and playing in front of all those people, and next to all the cows!
It is my belief that next year she will sweep the competition, but this year she got 4th place plus 40 bucks, and that is just awesome in my book! Go Hannah!!!
