Amen
A few nights before school started, the kids had to take all their supplies to their classrooms. This made the first day so much easier for sure! Well, I noticed on almost all of the classroom doors where the teachers name is located, there were little post-it notes attached all around with little "blessings" of sorts from parents wishing the new school year well. I at first found it odd, but then thought how nice that one could express "religion" in a school setting.
A few days ago Hannah was doing some homework for her English/language class, and she had a sheet of paper indicating all the rules of capitalization. One of the rules stated that all books in the Bible, and words referring to Deity should be capitalized; among other words pertaining to religion. Once again I thought how cool it was that they would include this.
Last night I attended a "meet the teacher" night at Jack's school. All the parents met in the auditorium before splitting off into class groups. The principal began the evening by stating that we would open with a prayer. A woman got up and said a very nice prayer asking that the kids and teachers be blessed to have a good year, etc. I was very impressed. I personally am not opposed to having religion recognized in public school. I think it is ridiculous that we can't call events at Christmas time "Christmas programs", or mention other relgious holidays when they happen throughout the year. They did this when I was a kid, and I think it sad that it is so "taboo" now.
I was talking to Hannah's principal today, and I mentioned that I was impressed that they said this prayer at the K-2 school. He said that they would have done it at the upper school on its "meet the teacher" night, but he couldn't find someone who would do it. I told him in the future Byron would do it. He was glad to know that. Hannah tells me that Mr. Ross often eats lunch with the 5th graders and she sees him bless his food before he eats. That makes me happy.

That's the south for you! And I do miss that aspect of living there.
That is awesome. We certainly hear very few prayers or talk of religion in school here. If it were more commonplace you wouldn't have thought anything of it.
That's great. Katie's preschool is at a Christian church. The director said that every morning before the kids arrive all the teachers meet in her office and have a prayer. That made me so happy. It really makes me feel good about sending her there.
She is so big now. Incredible. How was the move? Hope all's well
