Gators

Your not so friendly swamp gator. 12ft Brutus.

No trip to Bayou country would be complete without a tour. Now, we have our fair share of gators here in Mississippi mind you. Even seen 'em in my neighborhood thank you very much! But not in the manner we got to down in New Orleans.

We spent 2 hrs. floating around looking at turtles, blue heron, wild boar, and gators. Two days prior to our particular adventure, on lookers were able to witness a baby pig get chomped by the granddaddy of area. Aptly named Brutus. Might have been a tad disturbing for the wee ones, but I think I might have experienced a bit of a rush.
A baby gator, maybe 4 1/2 ft.
The swamp. Oddly enough this particular river begins right in my neck of the woods. It's the Pearl River for you folks familiar.

Enjoying a little hotdog. It's like swamp fast food.

B&W transformation
Jack actually took this one. I like it a lot.
He took this one too. I love Rachael's eyes.
All in all we had a nice trip. We are for sure looking forward to visiting New Orleans again and again and again... It seems they have come a long since hurricane Katrina ripped through. Although I can't have too much of an opinion since I hadn't experienced it prior to the devastation.

Our ride home was not uneventful, but I can't complain. A trip that should have taken 4 hrs. tops managed to be 8 once we walked through our doors. I shall not bore you with the details. Just know this,  we are grateful to those who lent a helping hand to a damsel(and her children) in distress.

THat's where Ivan wants out next little vacation to be. I'm not sure how I feel about those gators though! Yikes! Road trips are the pits with little kids.

It's really pretty safe. The boat doesn't go very fast and the guys driving them are pretty good at what they do. It was fun, my kids loved it, although it was pretty hot!
